Great Scots Male Grooming Co. is a small artisan beard products maker with a background in food and special interest tourism. So it stands to reason that I should aim to marry the two professions with Scotland's first 'Beards & Brew' Festival. The venue location is proposed to be the Castlegate area of Aberdeen City Centre on the Saturday 29th July 2017 as part of a new food festival that will happen the same day in the same place.
The festival itself will be brought to you in partnership with a new street food festival called 'Street Food Social' which will run for the first time this year to showcase a combination of artisan street food producers, local craftmakers, and a variety of local musical talent.
Competitor tickets include a goody bag for competing plus the chance to win a fantastic prize and claim bearded victory!
It is likely that there will be a raffle to raise funds for a local charity, with prizes being sponsored by local businesses. The beard competition will have several rounds and categories for entrants to compete in for their chance to win this top accolade and a prize to match. There will be categories for the following (in line with most beard & moustache championships);
- Best moustache natural – No products can be used as a styling aid.
- Best moustache freestyle – Products can be used to style.
- Best partial beard over 4 inches – Products can be used to style.
- Best partial beard under 4 inches– Products can be used to style.
- Best natural full beard over 4 inches – No products can be used as a styling aid.
- Best natural full beard under 4 inches – No products can be used as a styling aid.
- Best full beard freestyle over 4 inches - Products can be used to style.
- Best full beard freestyle under 4 inches- Products can be used to style.

Great Scots Male Grooming Co. is a modern, yet traditional approach to male grooming. Handmade in Scotland by a bearded man for bearded men, Great Scots Co delivers a core range of high quality grooming products for men without all the fancy stuff that make us men feel uncomfortable and quite frankly claustrophobic.
As the owner and founder of Great Scots Male Grooming Co. I am extremely proud to be bringing my range of high quality male grooming products to market as it has been quite a journey to get to this point. As a young man travelling the world and enjoying the backpacker lifestyle, this led me to sunny beach destinations and just like many young Brits abroad I neglected to protect my skin adequately from the harsh UV rays that were the source of many good times and from the outdoor environments in which I worked and played. I utilised my travel experience by studying special interest tourism and now teach within this arena, as well as having had many food tourism and cultural experiences myself.
Eventually I learned that other men with similar skin conditions grew beards which meant the naturally occurring sebum (the natural oil) on the skin was utilised to nourish the beard and so reduced over production on the face and led to reduced inflammation and redness. Reading this inspired me to learn more about this and that is when I came across beard oils and balms and the benefits to the health of beard hair and skin. I decided to experiment with making my own products and fragrances.
It is through these experiences within tourism, hospitality, and artisan craft making that the next logical step will be (with your help!) bringing you the very first 'Beards & Brew Fest' in partnership with 'Street Food Social' to celebrate and to sample all things artisan and crafty to locally crafted beers to local music talent to local street food and to simply have a jolly great time.
