As some of you will know, our club recently ended its nearly 70 year relationship with The National Trust. They had placed increasing restrictions on our use of the field at Bushey Norwood year after year, and ultimately we could not continue to use it for cross country or other events.
Luckily, we have acquired a new home at Grange Farm, Dunge, with the kind landowners allowing us the use of several fields for various events and shows throughout the season. We are also allowed to build a bigger and better cross country course on the land, which is very exciting! We have now got a brilliant Project Manager, the course is planned out, and we are ready to build, with just one thing standing in our way - money
Since we haven't had a cross country course since we left Bushey Norwood, club funds are running very low. The hunter trials and one day events we run with a cross country course are a major source of income for the club on an annual basis, and we hope this will continue once we build the new course, but we currently have two issues - not enough money in the bank, and no means of generating extra income without a course.
With your help we can change this! By pledging us money we can build a bigger and better cross country course then before. We can build a ditch, steps and even a water and sunken road complex! This course will be aimed at all levels, we are super friendly and have given many riders and horses the perfect start to their competition experiences.
Our club was founded in 1946 by the mother of famous show jumper Pat Smythe and as such is one of the oldest in Great Britain still in operation. We presently have a membership of over 150 riders, most of who live within 30 miles of our club facilities at Grange Farm, Dunge, Nr Trowbridge. We cater for all abilities and accept members from eight years upwards.
The club aims to promote events that enable riders to both learn and have fun, whilst offering the opportunity for members to share equestrian experiences with other riders. We hold many competitions throughout the year which include Dressage, Show Jumping, Hunter Trials, One Day Events, Horse Shows etc. We also aim to provide many activities such as Camp, Training, Dis-mounted Rallies, Demonstrations plus much more.
Bath Riding Club is affiliated to Area 9 of the BHS British Riding Club, this enables our members to participate in regular area competitions and training.
