Back2Bikes is a bicycle recycling charity in Stafford which aims not only to make affordable bicycles available to the public but also to help unemployed volunteers gain skills which will help them find employment. As a result of the local authority closing its day centres for adults with learning difficulties Back2Bikes now plans to open a new sheltered workshop facility to cater for these people offering a programme of both skill and social training. To help get this project off the ground we are looking for funding to buy tools and equipment.

Back2Bikes, established in 2004,  is a registered charity based in Stafford whose aim is to help the unemployed gain new skills through working on, and refurbishing, donated bicycles

Donated bicycles after refurbishmentOver the past few months the local authority, as part of its cost cutting exercise, has closed down day centres for young adults with learning difficulties. As a charity which uses the recycling of donated bicycles as a means of offering training Back2Bikes has already identified a number of young adults with learning difficulties who would like to work with us.

Our aim is therefore to set up a new small sheltered workshop to cater for these people.  Not only would this facility give the trainees a range of new practical skills based around work recycling bicycles but also enhance the opportunity to improve and enhance social and community skills. We have now obtained the lease on a small industrial unit next door to our main base, but just paying the rent for this small building means we have little if any funds left to purchase equipment.

We are therefore seeking funds from individuals or companies to buy basic hand tools and work benches and stands to help us develop this programme.  All money raised would go to purchase this much need equipment and would not be used for the day to day running costs of the workshop which will be met from the charities own funds supplimented by a small daliy charge made to those attending.

Your help would be much appreciated.
