A celebration of fishing & the environment of Assynt, with family fun for all ages, BBQ, information, games and an open fishing competition!
About the project
The primary aim of this event is to introduce kids as young as four or five to fishing and the aquatic environment. It is an event for the benefit of visitors to the area as well as local people living in Assynt. Now in its third year, it develpos further every time it is held and now boasts a puppet theater, BBQ and home baking, free fly tying and fly tying lessons, free casting lessons, electro fishing and kick sampling demonstartions from the West Sutherland Fisheries Trust, fun and games for all ages, information displays and people to talk wiht about anything Assynt and of course an open fishing competition with some amazing prizes!
The funds raised will go towards the family entertainment, to subsidise the food and food preparation training courses, a donation to the charities that actively support the event, four trophies for the open competition and a prize fund to purchase suitable prizes, with the emphasis firmly on getting young people into the healthy pastime of fly fishing. £500 just about covers it but anything over that would make things much easier, so if the initial target has been reached, please don't let that put you off!
The Assynt Fishing Feis is the brain-child of Stewart Yates, a local fly fishing guide who gives up a significant amount of time, skills, equipment, effort and money, right in the middle of the fishing season, to develop, organise, coordinate and run this event. He would like to give his heartfelt and humble thanks for every single penny you are able to donate to help this event to take place this year and in the years ahead.
