New stretch target
I will use any stretch funding to fund the time and reading materials required, to further explore the ideas laid out in my first article.
I would like to spend one month working on an article exploring the work of economist Hyman Minsky, in the context of the relationship between debt and welfare spending in the UK.
Our current benefits system is in crisis and I would like to explore the problems with the pursuit of asset based welfare in this political economy, in the wake of the financial crisis, incorporating the ideas of Hyman Minsky into my analysis and looking at ways that our current benefit system problems could be better managed for the benefit of the wider economy.
I specialise in writing about the relationship between our economic system, our social policy and inequality faultlines. I currently write regularly for www.pieria.co.uk, which is unpaid but a site which allows proper exploration of topics and has an audience of people with similar interests. I was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize in 2012, and have written for the left and right of the UK political press. Although they are not currently appropriate venues for discussion of welfare policy which is subject to political consensus.
