ABOUT THE EVENT: The Ancestor& 39;s Trail is a biological pilgrimage in Somerset ~ a secular celebration of our shared origins with all life on earth. Our participants walk footpaths representing Darwin& 39;s Tree of Life and, in so doing, symbolically walk back 3.7 billion years. Our numbers gradually swell as we merge with other pilgrims who arrive via tributary trails. The Trail is inspired by Richard Dawkins& 39; book & 39;The Ancestor& 39;s Tale& 39; and is now in its third year.http://ancestorstrail.net/
Our video shows the 2011 Trail which followed the same route along the beautiful Quantock Hills near Taunton. The route ends at a rocky (and fossil strewn) beach called Kilve. Along the way we enjoy scientific and musical contributions. This pitch offers full board accommodation options at Kilve Court (an Outdoor Education Centre).
ACCOMMODATION: In 2011 many of our walkers came from more than 100 miles away, and this year, to make things as convenient as possible our ALL INCLUSIVE packages include accommodation, food and evening entertainment. Investors can choose from: 1. Camping (or campervans) @ £40 per head per night, 2. Shared rooms (3-10 beds - first come first served for groups who wish to stay together) @ £60 per head per night or 3. single or two bed rooms @ £80 per head per night. Please note: There are only a limited number of places available at Kilve Court (including camping).

Sunday 26th August:

The Trail: 9am: Catch the bus to your chosen Trail head from Kilve Court.
11am: The Human Trail begins at Kingston St Mary and is 13 miles long but you can elect to vary the length of your walk through your choice of trail (anywhere from 1 to18 miles). Have a look at our Google map. Along the way you will be treated to contributions both scientific and musical.
Eventually, we will all arrive together at Kilve beach (representing the origin of life). Refreshments, including our very own & 39;Primordial soup& 39;, will be available.
This year detailed information and /or trail marshals will be available to help walkers of non-human trails find and follow their routes.
Evening EVENT 2: At Kilve Court, organised in conjunction with & 39;Music on the Quantocks& 39; we will host our second evening of celebration - a cabaret including longer renditions from many of the acts featured along the Trail. : 8pm onwards - meal included.
Monday 27th August: Pack up and leave by midday.
Ancestor& 39;s Trail buses: The Trail is a one way journey and so on the morning of the event we will arrange Trail buses to carry you from where the Trail ends at Kilve (where you can park your car) to your Trail starting place. This Trail bus is included within the rewards shown.
Ancestor& 39;s Trail taxi: For those travelling by public transport we will offer a pick up/ drop off to public transport links (mainly Taunton rail/coach stations). Pick up will run Saturday lunchtime, afternoon and a return service Sunday 7pm and Monday am. We will schedule the timings closer to event when we know train/bus times. Please add £15 per head to your Crowdfunder investment to book a place on this service. This total is not shown, but simply select the "no reward" button at the next stage which enables you to enter any sum you wish).
HOW A CROWDFUNDER PITCH WORKS: If the event reaches its target sum, we receive the cash and can make it happen as described. If not, everyone gets THEIR MONEY BACK - in this case you can withdraw these returned funds from Crowdfunder back into your PayPal account. When you invest, pay pal take a 3.4% cut (you& 39;ll see this added to your investment when you pay) and then, if we make the target sum, Crowdfunder take a 5% cut from the money they hand over to the Ancestor& 39;s Trail. In the interests of transparency, if we don& 39;t make the pitch, the only funds you& 39;d lose would be the initial 3.4% mentioned above and the same % again when they return the funds to your Pay Pal account. In these circumstances Crowdfunder gain nothing, unlike some other similar online crowd-sourcing services. It is also possible for a pitch to over -invest. In this case we will close the individual rewards or whole pitch as we reach capacity.
To use Crowdfunder you& 39;ll need to 1. transfer funds via pay pal to Crowdfunder and then 2. allocate these funds to the Ancestor& 39;s Trail pitch, just follow the instructions. Crowdfunder will send us the e-mail addresses of people who have invested and how much.
There will be a second pitch for folks who do not wish to make use of our accomodation packages but who would like to purchase & 39;tickets& 39; for our evening events/ trail bus/taxi.
BIODIVERSITY: Given that evolution is one big biodiversity machine, a proportion of the funds we raise go towards wildlife charities, and because 2012 is our & 39;Year of the Bird& 39; we encourage walkers to support the RSPB and the World Land Trust) through walking sponsorship.
