Join us for the second Ancestor's trail - Sunday 29th May (Bank holiday) A 'biological pilgrimage' on the Quantock Hills in Somerset. A secular celebration of our common ancestry. Based on Richard Dawkins' book 'The Ancestor's Tale', the Trail represents Darwin's Tree of Life. We will be walking back 3.7 billion years, reuniting with our ancestors as we go. Along the Trail we will encounter a range of scientific, philosophical and musical commentaries from Jonny Berliner (science-singer song writer), BHA songsters and speaker, the Treefrogs (bio-Blues) and others. They will perform again at the end-of-Trail celebration. 2011 is our Year of the Butterfly, and walkers are invited to raise sponsorship for Butterfly Conservation. Camping and accommodation are available at the Trail-end site. Full details and booking via our website: http://www.ancestorstrail.net/. A warm Somerset welcome awaits you. We hope to see you there. In order to deliver these ambitions we need to hire acts, speakers, accommodation and coach transport in advance, hence this pitch. How a Crowdfunder pitch works: If the event reaches its target sum we receive the cash and can make it happen as described. If not, everyone gets THEIR MONEY BACK - you have nothing to lose! When you invest, pay pal take a 5% cut (you'll see this added to your investment when you pay) and then, if we make it, Crowdfunder also take a similar cut, although you pay no more. You'll need to transfer funds via pay pal to Crowdfunder and then allocate these funds to the Ancestor's Trail pitch, just follow the instructions. Your investment can be used in two ways: 1. As a 'ticket' to allow entrance on the walk/evening event. OR, if you can't make it on the day, or live too far away from Somerset: 2. as payment for a video of the event: including clips of the various speakers and musical contributions. We currently have no workable method by which people can book their place on the Trail after this pitch ends, because by then it will be too late to book coaches / acts etc on your behalf. So if you want the event to happen, please invest via this pitch. Crowdfunder will send us the names of people that have invested and, on the day we'll mark off those attending. Anyone on our list who doesn't turn up will receive the appropriate reward instead. If you come on the day, your investment includes a coach drop off to your trail head so that you walk back to where all the cars are parked. In 2010 many walkers came from over 100 miles away, and this year, to make things as convenient as possible, we have negotiated with St Audries Holiday Park (our evening event location) to provide one or two night s accommodation/camping, including food if you wish. Free entrance for under 16's. Students £10 for the whole event. Another alternative is to invest in the £10 Trail option and use this for entrance to the evening event only. We will contact you after the pitch ends to find out whether you want us to book you a place on the bus and, if so, which branch of the trail you wish to walk. The Trail: The number of walkers following the trail will gradually swell as tributary groups (representing the various branches of Darwin s tree of life) merge with the main body of walkers along our historical time-line. However, you can choose the length of your walk through your choice of trail (anywhere from 1 to13miles). Eventually, we will all arrive together at Kilve (representing the origin of life) accompanied by rich harmony from the British Humanist Association Choir including two songs written especially for the event. The Evening event: Later that evening, at the St Audries Bay Holiday Club hall, we will throw a party including further performances from many of the acts you met previously on the trail. Monday Morning: We have organised speakers from Bristol University, The Butterfly Conservation Group and the British Humanist Association. However, remember it is possible to over-invest in a Crowdfunder pitch. Even if our target bar is full, we will still have spaces available, so please keep investing and/or spreading the word. The more people invest, the better the event we deliver. .
