What's the problem we're trying to solve? There is a serious lack of education and awareness regarding contraception and sexual health in Zambia which is contributing to extortionately high STI and HIV statistics.
Why do we care about this?It is a subject I am passionate about and I hope to develop as a career. The opportunity to work in a developing country and to have a positive impact on people's lives is something I find both exciting and rewarding.
How will the money be spent? The money will be spent on equipment and provisions needed to provide demonstrations and promote safe sex. This includes: male and female condoms and condom demonstrators. It will also provide the team with t-shirts allowing us to stand out in the community to promote our work, which we will later leave in Zambia, along with other items of clothing.
When will supporters see the difference? No immediate difference will be seen as this is an ongoing long term project to raise awareness and instigate change in attitudes and behaviour which will ultimately lead to the improvement of the sexual health and HIV rates within the community.
I am currently in my second year studying Sexual Health Studies at UCLan. I am also a volunteer for the Education and Training Team at Brook Wigan. I would love to obtain a career within Sexual Health as it is a subject I am passionate about and would find extremely rewarding.
