Our fab little boy Alby (7) loves his sport and can be seen whizzing around the streets of the North East in all weathers! Alby was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy which affects all of his muscles and has meant, from a very young age, that he has had to rely on a powerchair to get around as he is unable to walk. We call his powerchair Whizzy. Whizzy is fine for flat areas but no good for anything other than reasonable paths and the smallest of kerbs. Our whole family is outdoorsy and Alby is no different, we have taken Whizzy to places it certainly wasn't designed for BUT inevitably Alby's experiences have been limited to what we can manage to help him over or through. We have been looking for something that would enable Alby to access more of the outdoors. You can imagine places like the beach or muddy fields have been difficult to negotiate. Well, we think we have found something that ticks all the boxes! He test drove it this morning from allterrainwheelchairs. It has all the functions Alby is familiar with but has junior quad bike wheels/tyres and is specifically designed to get people just like Alby to places they previously have not been able to access. It is called the X8 but I am sure Alby will come up with a new name for it should we be able to raise the funds!
