I have recently completed an LLB at Birkbeck University with first class honours as a mature student. I intend to start the Legal Practice Course (LPC) in October 2016 after being awarded a scholarship from my university which will cover part of the LPC course fees. I am now looking for help with funding to pay the rest of my LPC fees.
I currently volunteer at Prisoners' Advice Service (PAS) where I provide casework support to solicitors in prison law matters. I believe in making legal services accessible to all, especially to those who do not have access to justice and cannot afford representation. I have supported a number of organisations campaigning for social justice. I have volunteered at Inquest, Prisoners Abroad, Hammersmith Law Centre and Prisoners’ Advice Service.
I come from an disadvantaged background and I am the first person to go to university in my family. It is my life experience, both in a personal and professional capacity which has led me to do a law degree at a later stage in my life and become committed to social justice. It is through my experience in volunteering and my research at university that I have gained the passion and commitment to working for an organisation that challenges the criminal justice system and State practices and this is why I want to be able to complete my LPC and become a solicitor.
