 Whose #Alan...

Alan, We Think You Should Get a Dog is a tough yet tender devised play exploring what happens to a family when there is a breakdown in communication and responsibility.

They came to my funeral, but I wasn't quite dead... yet'.

Daisy has grappled with holding things together her whole life. Her brother Ollie only sees stars in shots, while she finds herself alone caring for her father. Now, as the siblings face off with each other, Daisy is fighting for communication and her family. But when that leaves her with blood on her hands, it's frightening.

Who we are...

We are a devised theatre company who specialise in play and ensemble led theatre, finding the madness in the mundane. We create imaginative and honest work that comes from a reaction to the outside world. We grapple with tender, vicious and extraordinary stories whilst maintaining a light touch and strong sense of humour.

We formed in 2015 whilst training together on the BA Acting: Collaborative and Devised Theatre course (in creative partnership with Complicite) at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and have boldly stepped into graduation life with company members working with renowned companies such as English National Opera, Battersea Arts Centre, National Youth Theatre and Complicite.

 Why #ALAN…

As a theatre company, we are always on the hunt for new stories to share, seeking out the madness that surrounds us. #Alan is a story about neglect and conflict within a family.

We first began developing #Alan in 2016 after we were awarded a place on the New Diorama Theatre Emerging Graduate Companies Programme in Association with HIIVE 2016. Since then, we’ve received an NSDF ‘Highly Commended’ and were shortlisted from over 100 applicants to perform in the Charlie-Hartill Tryouts for The Pleasance.

How you can help…

We’ve got a long and tough road ahead of us until we get to the fringe but you can help make that journey so much easier, by donating as little as £5! #Alan won’t get anywhere without your help. Rewards from donations include free tickets to the show in Edinburgh, a signed poster, production photos that you can keep forever and maybe even a SURPRISE GIFT!

(Disclaimer: Sorry, it won’t be a dog)

 What It’ll be spent on…

Going up to the Edinburgh Fringe is no small endeavour, financially and physically. We’ve already received in-kind support from New Diorama Theatre, National Youth Theatre, Tring Park, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and an anonymous donor. You can see what your money is going to be spent on in the breakdown of our budget below.

What’s next…

We’re very keen on taking #Alan on a spring tour around the country in 2018, travelling specifically to rural communities and regional theatres. We’ve got high hopes for the future of Mad Like Roar, but we won’t be able to do any of it without your help.
