A real home for young people coming out of Care or being re-settled here.
Potentially beautiful home being offered to a local charity as assisted lodgings for young people. Its a huge old Victorian Terrace with all its original features (including gas mantles!) which I am in the process of renovating for the purpose as mentioned.
I want to create a real home with all modern comforts but retain its character and history. I have plenty to offer these kids. I'm a retired teacher with experience in Pastoral Guidance. More importantly, I am a good old fashioned Yorkshire cook, firm but fair with a sense of humour. I want to impart values and give life skills to young people who have not had the best start in life. To get started, I need to renovate this old lady of a house, who currently only has only one Victorian loo! If I can make a success of this, I will expand until every disadvantaged youngster in Hull knows the difference between a green vegetable and a chip, can apply for a job with confidence and use contraception rather than drugs.
Just spent £6000 on plumbing, curing the damp and introducing the house to the idea of a functioning bath. The kitchen and the coffers are now dry. Any contributions are welcome. Donations of Victorian bedroom furniture would also be welcome. Many of these young people will have been in institutions so character is important. I want them to have treasured memories of this old place and the crazy old bat who runs it.
