Having a child with a complex medical condition means I have spent months at a time in hospital with him. I have seen and met many other parents along the way, in several different hospitals, who like me, give up their lives to be with their children. This often means spending 24 hours a day, sitting by their child's bedside, doing nothing but willing them to get better.
A Light In The Dark is an appeal I have launched which will support these parents by providing them with little treats, home comforts and other surprises. Whilst supporting a close friend of mine who's child is in hospital, I realised that the power of a small surprise gift can have a huge impact on a persons well being and mental state. It can be incredibly draining, both emotionally and physically, caring for a sick child and I want to show these parents that people do care about them.
I am going to start by launching this project at the Royal Brompton hospital and great Ormond street hospital, and working with healthcare professionals I will target parents most in need.
