New stretch target
Any extra funding would really allow me the opportunity to produce higher quality videos that would help more pupils succeed in their physics exams.
Some money would be spent on a new laptop with editing software. The remaining money would be spent on advertising on YouTube and Facebook to raise the profile of my channel which then result in more subscribers for the final videos.
I aim to bring excellent teaching to many more students as they study for their A Level Physics exams through video tutorials.
About the project
Physics is often seen as a hard subject but it doesn't have to be that way. I love this fascinating subject and want to help as many students as possible to understand the basic concepts and also have a resource they can access anywhere, anytime, to help them as much as possible before their exams.
At the start of this year I started making short videos with a borrowed camera to help my students, since there were not many interesting videos that covered all the content my students needed. Since I started uploading to YouTube the number of views and subscribers has exceeded my expectations, with a huge amount of positive feedback from students around the world (have a look yourself at my website).
My intention is to make all the material for Year 12 students completely free, this ensures that it reaches a wide audience as they use it for their learning and revision. The majority of pupils continue with physics into Year 13 which is where I would charge them a small fee for access to this material which would help them with the more challenging part of the course. Very few young people or families can afford private tuition at £30 per hour, so for a small subscription fee they would have access to a huge amount of extra help. Every year another 40,000 students take this subject and my project would run for many years.
I am looking for funding to cover the cost of equipment for producing the videos within the next year and also setting up a site that allows me to post videos that only paid subscribers can see. Any additional money raised would go towards the monthly web hosting and other online services required to keep this site running as well as advertising to promote my services to as many people as possible.
I have set myself a deadline of January 2016 to have everything ready for the first paid subscribers, which will allow pupils enough time to use the material in preparation for their summer 2016 exams. I would have material for all major exam boards (OCR, AQA, Edexcel) and for the new curriculum that has just been introduced.
Please have a look at what I've produced so far on YouTube or visit my Facebook page if you'd like to get in contact with me.With your help I can help thousands of new students every year with their understanding, enjoyment and progress in this important subject.
In August 2016 I aim to be in a position to refund your initial investment and I will share 10% of the profit I make between the people who have made this project viable.
