We are opening a community hub in Seaham Town Centre in East Durham which will provide information and support to the communities of Seaham and Murton. The hub will include an internet cafe where the public can access the internet in a supported environment to improve their digital skills. Technology plays a vital part in our everyday life, but for those people without basic digital skills, the benefits of the internet that we may take for granted remain locked away and out of reach. The Government’s Digital Inclusion strategy seeks to offer many of their services online, this means that local people will need to be have the confidence and skills to access the service and complete relevant paperwork.
We aim to provide a welcoming environment where people from all client groups can use the facility to pay household bills, complete job search activity, build their social network by accessing social media etc. The cafe will host a dementia cafe to help support people suffering from this cruel ilness along with offering advice and practical support to their carers.
This Project will fund modifying the building to provide disabled access and facilities to ensure people from across can use the facility and gain the benefits.
