We need your help to create a national campaign to get young people especially young women aged 18-25 registered to vote. Let's do this

Project aim

We want to create a national campaign to get young people, focusing particularly on young women, aged 18-25 registered to vote, can you help us?

About the project

Youth Media Agency is a social enterprise committed to supporting youth created content in the UK. We work with young creatives to produce ethical campaigns aimed at young people. We have teamed up with Amor Magazine to launch the #XXVOTE campaign

In the 2010 General Election only 51% of young people aged 18-25 voted and less than half of those were women. It is estimated that there are a further 750,000 young people still not registered.

After a consultation we discovered young women are often confused and overwhelmed by politics, or are simply uninterested because of both a lack of political literacy in our education system and a lack of policies that represent them.

"I'm not registered but I want to vote..I just dont know how" Talia, 18

We want young people especially young women to realise that registering and voting means they will get the issues that matter to them discussed in parliament and they will also form part of a democratic society.

We need your help to raise £5000 in order to build a national campaign that can reach 3.5 million 18-25 year olds. All our content is made by young creatives under 25 and we want the campaign to be underpinned by a powerful film that can go viral with some great looking graphics.

A new online voter registration system has been introduced. With the deadline for registering to vote looming on April 20th the clock is ticking to restore the rights of young voters in Britain.

The project is designed to address this crucial issue within our society’s democratic deficit by targeting those least likely to participate and ensure that they are given a voice in the 2015 election - we will do this by using our network of over 180 youth media platforms including radio, print and online magazines and online TV channels.

This is such an important issue. How can we call ourselves a democratic society unless everyone is involved?

Please, we need your help. Please pledge today.

What do we need and why?

We are asking for your help to produce a viral film and graphics targeting young women 18-25 to get them to register and vote. This production and delivery of the campaign will be lead by young filmmakers, producers, artists and campaigners who will work with youth media platforms and their peers to promote registration and participation among this age group of women voters. Already active, young female creatives have designed and detailed the brief for this project and are ready to commission the following activities once funding has been secured.

THIS IS A NON PARTISAN CAMPAIGN

How will you spend the money you raise?

The money will be spent on everything we need to produce this content and circulate it to millions of young women across the country – from producing a 2 minute film, graphics and eflyers to a 4 week campaign using #XXVOTE that will be shared through social media channels.

When will the production take place?

Once we succeed with our crowdfunding campaign, thanks to your help we will be ready to move forward and we aim to have completed by mid-march 2015. The campaign will run throughout March until April 20th for registration and then right up until May 7 for participation in the election.

Are you supporting a particular political party?

No – this project has support from across the political spectrum. This is about ensuring British democratic decision making is open and engages with every citizen.

I have another question not answered here.

No problem! If you’ve got any questions about our crowdfund project, just send us an email to info@youthmediaagency.org.uk and we’ll get back to you.
