On the 3rd May I'll be running the BMO Vancouver Marathon, or at least wheezing and spluttering my way through it. I thought it would be good if some worthy cause could benefit from my suffering and there's no better cause than Angkor Tree School. I taught English briefly at this school situated just on the outskirts of Siem Reap, Cambodia, and was struck by how much the organiser, Khit Sokhom, had sacrified to provide free, extra-curricular, language tuition to some of the poorest kids in the area.
Your sponsorship money will go towards purchasing additional land for the school with the aim of building another classroom. I'll travel to Cambodia in June to oversee distribution of the money and ensure it's well spent.
I understand that these days we are all bombarded with requests for charity but this is a small project and one where your money will make a difference in a very direct way. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email or personal message on here.
P.S. I'm not using a charity-based sponsorship website such as JustGiving because this is a small project and if a charity isn't registered with them, then they don't have the functionality to support it. CrowdFunding is a little bit more expensive with a 5% fee if I reach my target, but I'll make up that difference so that Anchor Tree School will receive the full amount raised.
P.P.S If we reach our target, please don't stop giving - it will all be very well spent!
