Penwith Radio has been broadcasting from it's studio in Penzance over the internet for 5 years.
To overcome rural isolation
To provide a truly local community radio service to West Cornwall, reflecting the personality and unique character of this area.
Offer a platform and voice for the many community organisations.
Why we need you help:
We are looking to take Penwith Radio to the FM airwaves in August 2014. We have been working toward this goal since the project began. We have the FM licence. We have the sites for the two transmitters required. We need your help to take the final step - installing and commissioning the masts.
About Penwith Radio:
Penwith Community Radio was born in 2005, initially as a project to overcome rural isolation for the older members of the community in the West of Cornwall. Quickly gaining momentum and support, the station set up a studio in the Wharfside Shopping Centre in the heart of Penzance, Cornwall. The station broadcast it's first output in the form of podcasts in 2008, and made it's first live broadcast in May 2009.
Now a community interest company, the station has broadcast live programming over the internet for the last five years. All presenters are volunteers from all corners of the community - each of whom bring their own style and personality to the station. Programming reflects the diversity of interests in what is a unique area, with everything from pop to poetry, drum 'n' bass to drama - all with a micro-local focus.
The station supports, and has built strong links with other community groups, offering them a perfect platform for promotion. We have built close relationships with Truro and Penwith College, Newlyn Art Gallery and the Exchange Gallery, the Community Policing team, Rotary Club, Golowan and Lafrowda Festivals and countless local charities and community groups.
Penwith Radio is also bringing great benefits to the volunteers, many of whom are unemployed or have other challenges. As well as the camaraderie amongst the team, volunteers have seen positive benefits to self-esteem, confidence and employability following training and experience.
It's time to take the next step: we aim to launch our FM broadcast in August, but can only achieve this with your help.
Please consider donating to this fantastic community project, there are a range of options and rewards available, and most importantly the opportunity to be part of a great asset to the communities of the far west of Cornwall.
