Thank you for taking a look at my crowdfunding page. I am looking to raise funds to help me get to the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships which takes place in Motala, Sweden 26-28th June 2015, I will be representing Great Britain within the age group 45-49.
As an amatuer athlete there is no funding available from British Triathlon to support costs such as event entry fees, travel or GBR kit.
I am extremely grateful for all of your donations and promise that if this opportunity to race for GBR at World Championships is made real via crowdfunding that I will do all I can to get a result which is worthy of all your support.
I am 44 years of age (nearly 45) and have been competing in Triathlon for just over 3 years and have come a long way during this time.
I jumped straight in at the deep end (literally) when I took up triathlon and decided to race Long Distance which involves swimming 2.4 miles in open water, cycling 112 miles and then finishing with a full marathon run of 26 miles. my current PB is 10hrs 14mins.
When I started this triathlon journey I could hardly manage to swim 1 length of the pool (25m), but after many hours of practice and training, by the time of my first race in 2013 I finished the swim by the cut off, jumped on my bike and then ran, walked and crawled the marathon with an overall finish time of 11hrs 13mins.
I've always considered myself as a proficient runner and cyclist, but bringing all three sports together in a one day event was a big ask! To put things into perspective I have a full time job, a family to support as well as fitting in over 15 hours of training a week.
Last Year (2014) I qualified and was selected by British Triathlon to represent GBR in the 40-44 age group at the ITU European Long Distance Championships and finished a very respectable 5th, just outside of the medals. This year (2015) I qualified for both the ETU European Championships which will be held in Weymouth in September as well as the ITU World Championships.
I have previously had some financial support from Destination Plymouth, Cogs Bikes and this year Europa Training to help cover costs of my GBR kit, Cogs bikes have supported me in supplying my Race bike along with the Plymouth Life Centre who have supported my swim training and gym membership.
Being selected go to Sweden for the World Championships was not predicted and therefore was not budgeted for. Sweden is a very expensive place and the race location is many hours away from airports which makes the logistics and the accommodation very expensive, it is for this reason I am seeking Crowdfunding (Please Help)
Qualifying is just that start of this journey, funding it is also a big challenge. All money raised will be used for travel and accommodation. If I exceed my fund raising target I will use the additional funds to cover the race entry fee (£240). Any further funds will then be donated back into another athlete's CrowdFunder.
Proud to represent GBR and Plymouth
I am extremely proud to be able to represent Plymouth and GBR at this extremely tough sport! I am serious about competing at my best, this year I have invested financially in a coach to get me to both championships in the best form possible. To achive this I train 6 days a week often twice a day both before and after work.
I have a great job working for my local council coordinating their apprenticeship program and I have already seen how my sporting achievements have motivated and given confidence to both young and older people to get out and give sport a go! I realy enjoy sharing my sporting experiences with others and hope that I can prove that whatever your age, with plenty of hard work and determination you can succeed if you put your body and mind to it
