Team GB Savate (French boxing) would like a smart team kit to look the part in this year's World Championships in Rome

by sian-marie.clark in London

 New stretch target

Thank you all so much for your incredible support thus far! Team GB has now got the funding for the kit that we had hoped to be wearing this year!

Team GB 2013

What will we use the extra money for?

But, please, if you still want to be a part of the Savate Team GB experience please continue to support us. Any money we now raise over our target will go towards a number of things:

  • Supporting team members with their squad training costs this autumn
  • Supporting our coaches and accompanying officials
  • Funding more advanced squad training sessions for the coming year (open to GB squad and other senior students in our clubs) to be able to bring over some high level instructors to impart their knowledge to us
  • And much much more team development and sport development to ensure we can keep attending - and winning! - these competitions!

Eight British athletes have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2014 World Savate Assaut Championships in Rome this November. Savate is a European kickboxing art characterised by style, fluidity, flamboyance and the wearing of hard boots!

GB Savate receives no formal sponsorship, unlike many of the other national teams. Despite the lack of funding every year British athletes bring home medals and win the respect of the world’s Savate community.

Team GB 2012

Team members pay for their own regular training, GB squad training, travel to and from GB and international tournaments, championships travel and accommodation, entry fees and many other things besides. Our dedicated band of coaches and officials also pay their own way to support our fighters.

Team members also all regularly volunteer their time and energy to coach and train other members of the GB Savate community, to officiate and help run events, to support Savate in other countries where support is needed, and in some cases to teach people related arts and self defense. They are a dedicated and loyal group of individuals with the best interests of the sport at heart.

We are a force to be reckoned with... But currently we don’t look the part...

Team GB Success in 2010! 3 silver medallists

This is where you come in!

In recent years we have simply had a jacket to set us apart as team GB, and no formal team kit to wear in the ring, putting us at a significant sartorial disadvantage to other teams! This year we would like to buy smart, new kit to look like the successful team that we have proved ourselves to be over the years. This cost would stretch our team members and so this is why we ask for your support in funding it.

We are appreciative of all support we are given, and we hope that our rewards go a little towards thanking you for all of your support and in encouraging you to get involved with GB Savate.
