Gerry Chambers is the SNP candidate for the Blantyre by-election being held on Thursday 10th December 2015.
We've got the manpower for Gerry’s Campaign, now we need help to fund it.
What we need:
A great many people are generously giving their time to help the campaign at the minute. However, campaigning costs money too. Printed materials, telephone canvassing and Campaign Room hire are just a few of the many outgoings we'll encounter.
We believe we can win this seat, but we need Members, friends and supporters from all “airts and pairts” to help us achieve this goal. All money raised will be deposited into Rutherglen SNP's bank account for exclusive use in Gerry's Blantyre by-election campaign.
Gerry lives in Blantyre with his wife, Sue. They have 5 adult sons and one grandson. Gerry is a Resource Planning Manager, with previous experience in the Offshore industry. Born in Lanarkshire, generations of his family, like so many in the area, worked in the coal and steel industries.
Whilst Blantyre is steeped in this important heritage it is to the future we must look, ensuring we get the opportunities and investment in new industries and business that the town needs to grow and thrive. After decades of Labour Party rule there are still significant areas of neglect in infrastructure and services in Blantyre. A fully funded Council Tax freeze has benefited families since 2008 but, in spite of this, the Labour run Council is planning even more cuts to frontline services. It is vital that Blantyre has a strong SNP voice to scrutinise and oppose any further unnecessary cuts in services.
Gerry has played an active role in representing the SNP in Blantyre. He led the SNP Blantyre campaign team during the General Election, playing a key role in supporting Margaret Ferrier in her campaign to become our MP. More recently, he was instrumental in setting up our own Branch and was elected as the Convener at our inaugural meeting on October 9th, 2015. Gerry was passionate about establishing a Blantyre Branch of the SNP to ensure that Blantyre would have a distinct voice within the expanding Party and also at Council level.
At the heart of Gerry’s campaign is the desire to make a difference to the quality of the daily lives and futures of those living in Blantyre. He is determined to scrutinise and oppose any further cuts to vital services and to support the expansion of Community initiatives through the new Community Empowerment Act.
