Gordon Matthews, one of our long-standing volunteers, has been researching the reasons why even good Volunteers stop Volunteering. He has now finished his work and we wish to get this report published. The draft report can be accessed here
We have been using Gordon's work with both volunteers and organisations over the past couple of years and it has been very successful in enabling
- organsations to evaluate their current procedures
- volunteers to understand thier roles and the expectations from organisations
About the project
As a Volunteer Centre, we are acutely aware of the many issues around volunteering and have been concerned for some time that many of the volunteers we assess and refer are not retained by the organisations they may be referred to.
In this age of austerity, organisations need vlunteers more than ever yet have ever-dwindling resources to enable them to recruit, induct and support volunteers.
The research Gordon has carried out is essential reading for both volunteers and organisations alike. Our aim is to mount an on-going campaign to get the messages contained in this publication out to as many people as possible so that anyone interested in volunteering or recruiting volunteers will:
- be better prepared
- stay volunteering or keep volunteers longer
- provde or have a more enjoyable and worhtwhile volunteering experience.
