New stretch target
Bude for Food is a not-for-profit initiative created by local people united by our love of Bude and our desire to see our town grow as a destination for people who love and understand food.
Those of us who live here are well aware of the wealth of stunning places to eat and drink, beautiful places to stay and talented artisan food producers in and around Bude… Now we want to extend this knowledge to the rest of the country!
Our long-term goal is to promote Bude and its surrounds to a new audience with a community focussed programme of food & drink related events to bring in visitors all year round. This will support the local economy and create employment for local people both in and outside the food industry.
To launch the initiative with a bang, our team of dedicated volunteers have been working very hard to create the:
Bude For Food Festival on 20th and 21st September2014 on the Bude Castle lawns.
With three months to go we’ve already got 50 producers signed up for the Artisan Food Marquee where we'll have celebrity chefs doing demos throughout both days. There'll be a real ale bar, a fabulous street food market, kids activities and workshops, 1940s afternoon tea and cocktails, Lindy Hop and evening entertainment on two nights!
We’ve also tied in with the Rosamunde Pilcher Exhibition which will take place in The Castle during the month of September and the Bude Quadrathlon which takes place on the Saturday of the Festival as an ideal opportunity to showcase some of the many cultural and sporting opportunities that Bude has to offer as well.
But.... events of this size have a price tag to match and we need funding to help us pay for some of the essentials in our first year... Loos, signage, security, the marquee, St. John’s First Aiders, promotion, insurance, the list goes on; and whilst the necessities may not be very glamorous, without them we can’t run the festival.
To be as accessible to as many people as possible, entry to the festival is free. There will be a small charge to visit the Artisan Food Marquee... but you get a Bude For Food wristband in return! ...And the evening comedy and music events will be ticketed to pay for the amazing acts!
Our community is already embracing the concept and we’re lucky to have had some very generous people and businesses donate a range of wonderful experiences and gifts for us to offer as rewards for your pledges...
Ranging from accommodation in fabulous apartments, cottages and yurts to adventures on the water, ceramic painting workshops, vouchers for meals at some of our fantastic restaurants and brilliant bags for carrying all your goodies home again!
Although we are using food as the ‘pull’ to bring people to our beautiful town, we want everyone to benefit and we’re really proud and excited about the way the community of Bude have embraced our initiative and are working together to help make it a success.
Yes, Bude for Food is about local food and drink, but it’s about so much more; it aims to grow our community as a hub for education, learning, entrepreneurship and sharing ideas so that Bude can continue to grow and thrive. Any surplus raised will be ploughed back into the community via the Bude For Food Initiative.
We’re really excited about Bude for Food and we hope this small taste of what we’re trying to achieve has caught your imagination; if you love our beautiful town, whether you live here, work here or visit, please help the festival succeed by choosing one of our fabulous rewards and invest in an exciting future for Bude.
