Our project begins with a sponsored cycle that we're organising here in the UK. We're going to be cycling the popular route 'Way of the Roses' in order to raise money, which will contribute to the funds needed to build a playground for disadvantaged children living in Ciudadela Sucre, Soacha, Colombia.
After visiting and working in this neighbourhood, the vulnerable situation of the community became clear. It's a very poor area that lacks public services and in particular, recreational spaces for the children and teenagers. This is the reason we're organising the sponsored cycle. There will be 15 of us cycling 170 miles over the May Bank Holiday weekend (24th-26th May). It's going to be a huge challenge for all of us and we're asking for your support to make this project a success.
Once we have completed the cycle, we'll be travelling to Colombia in June to help with the beginning of the project. We are also planning to film in order to make a short documentary when we return. This will be available online at a later date so you can see that your money has been well spent. You'll also be able to follow us on Twitter, if you'd like to see the progress that we're making while we're there. In the meantime, you can contact us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/A-Playground-for-Encuentro-con-la-Vida/1412155212365287 or email us: info.cyclewayoftheroses@gmail if you have any questions.
This truly is a really great project that is not only going to benefit the children of the area, but also the whole community of Ciudadela Sucre. There are many families trying to rise above their situation and provide opportunities for themselves and their children. The hope is that the playground will provide a safe, relaxed environment where the children can play and have fun, giving them the chance to occupy themselves in a positive way and building relationships with their peers that will strengthen their opportunities in the future.
Please pledge as little or as much as you can, it all helps and we would really appreciate every donation. Thanks for your time (and your donations)!
