3rd Aberystwyth Scouts provide weekly sessions in term time, for up to 60 children and young people, that's 234 hours every year in total, both boys and girls aged between 6 and 18, in Beavers, Cubs, Scout and Explorers, no matter what their social background, race or religion. Weekly sessions usually take place in our hut on Plas Avenue and on top of these sessions we also have camping trips both locally and further afield, in the last year these have been local camps in Ceredigion, as well as further afield, in South Wales and Ireland.
Last year to raise funds we climbed Everest twice as a Group (164 times up Consti!!)...this years fundraising challenge is a Marathon on the Prom...a Promathon on Aberystwyth's beautiful, hopefully sunny, promenade. The Prom is 1.25miles end to end so 10.5 return journey's from Constitution Hill to the end of the Jetty is a marathon...sounds easy doesn't it!
We are dividing the Prom into 250m long stretches and the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers can complete as many of these stretches as they would like to on Sunday 25th June. Every 250m completed by a Beaver, Cub, Scout or Exlorer will count towards a marathon and we'll see how many marathons we can complete in the afternoon.
All our leaders are volunteers, so every penny of funds raised through this event will go to supporting our activities, buying kit and maintaining our Scout hut.
