212th Glasgow Boys Brigade - Minibus Project

To purchase a minibus to help in delivering activities to members of 212th and offering affordable minibus hire to other local organisations

Project aim

To purchase a minibus to assist in the development of the 212th programme of activities and provide affordable minibus hire to local not-for-profit organisations.

About the project

The 212th is an active Boys Brigade Company and provides a balanced programme of activities to children and young people from 5 to 18 years old with the aim of making a positive contribution to a young person's life. Our activities include educational trips/excursions, sports (football, badminton, table tennis, athletics) - participation and spectating, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme expeditions and two annual camps/holidays per year, to name a few.

These can involve a significant degree of travel locally, regionally and nationally, and with a restricted pool of leaders/drivers, the ability to meet the aspirations of the boys to participate could be limited.

A minibus would be of huge benefit to the 212th and help in in meeting those aspirations, allowing us to transport boys to BB events easier.  Additionally, with the availability of self-drive minibus hires generally only available for a minimum of 3 days, the minibus would be available for day hires by other not-for-profit organisations who experience similar transport challenges.

Our project involves the purchase a good quality second-hand minibus and funding of initial OTR costs.  The 212th has already allocated reserve funds to the project, with fundraising events planned over the coming session.  If successful our aim is to have the bus up and running by May 2016.
